Tirupati: In a crackdown aimed at restoring law and order situation, Kadapa police arrested several accused belonging to two groups linked to the
stone pelting incident.
Kurnool range DIG Dr Koya Praveen along with Kadapa SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath inspected the area on Sunday where the stone pelting took place.
Speaking to reporters, the Kurnool DIG termed the stone pelting incident between two groups as unfortunate and the result of provocative statements made by persons belonging to both groups. “Cases have been registered on both groups and a few persons involved in the stone pelting incident have been taken into custody, while a few others are absconding and the police have intensified efforts to nab them at the earliest”, Koya Praveen added.
Explaining that Sec 144 prohibitory orders remained in force, the DIG stated that the Kadapa police carried out a flag march to instil confidence among the public. He said that prohibitory orders will be lifted once normalcy returns in a day or two.
He said that the person, who put up a banner of Tipu Sultan absconded. It was learnt that he left for Dubai. The other group which put up flexes renaming the circle after a deity was admonished for the act.
Praveen explained that contentious issue should be dealt through a dialogue and not through force. He said the police and the district administration are holding a series of talks with both groups to amicably resolve the issue.
